King and Queen of the Sea 2012

A few weeks ago I attended the King and Queen of the Sea 2012 event, an annual fashion show/pageant held in the Portuguese community in order to raise funds for the Portuguese Welfare.

A friend of mine, Zandalee de Gois, was taking part in the event and a few friends and I decided to attend to show our support.  The event is held at the Portuguese Club in Rugby, Cape Town and entrance is open to young adults from the age of 16-22 who are members of the Portuguese community.

The evening consists of a series of runway "walks" where contestants show off their casual style and formal-wear.  A series of group dances by the contestants also takes place and the entrants are encouraged to show off their style, beauty and personality throughout the show, in order to gain the votes of the judges.  The winners of the event represent the Portuguese community for a full year and are very involved in the Blessing of the Fishing Fleet event that takes place annually at the V&A Waterfront.

The show was extremely entertaining and highly competitive, with all contestants giving it their all for the highly coveted crown.  Congratulations to Zandalee for winning Miss Personality on the night, by far outshining all the other contestants with her fun and bubbly personality!
